One of the core focuses at Olympiacare is encouraging the independence of our participants in living their daily lives and being able to complete daily tasks within their living environment wherever possible. We believe it is extremely important that all our participants maintain a degree of independence in their lives. We appreciate that assistance is required and we are here to offer a quality, caring and supportive service but at the same time we recognize that our participants wish to retain pride and confidence in their own abilities to complete tasks around the home.
Whilst our core aim is to provide our participants with the tools and skills to live as independently as possible we appreciate that some tasks are too difficult to undertake without assistance. We can offer help in general cleaning, washing, ironing, vacuuming and a range of other general duties. We emphasise to all our participants that we are merely there to assist and encourage active participation within the client´s capabilities. All our participants are encouraged to complete or share tasks wherever possible.
Our staff are experienced in food preparation and can assist participants in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner. All our staff are knowledgeable in terms of specific dietary requirements, food allergies etc and can assist in the preparation of meal planning, working within the participant´s budget.
All our staff are made aware of each of their participant´s health issues. We believe that it is essential that all of our staff are aware of each of their participants health issues in case of an emergency. All our staff are required to undergo a rigorous training program and are fully aware of the needs of all our participants.
They have experience in administering medication and can liaise with the participant´s medical team to arrange appointments, home visits and identify and assist with any potential issues regarding the participant´s health and medication.
We recognise that health issues have an impact on a participant´s finances. Olympiacare can offer advice and support in Financial Management. In consultation with a participant´s family we offer support and also a training course in how to manage your financial situation.
We understand that something deemed as simple a task as shopping can be a challenge for a lot of our participants. We offer advice and accompanied shopping trips for our participants. The current huge availability of products and choice can be completely overwhelming and our staff can help alleviate this. Our staff have a lot of experience in assisted shopping and can help our participants negotiate products, labels, food allergies and much more. We can also help deliver and collect items such as dry cleaning, prescriptions etc
Whilst we respect the needs of each of our individual participants, independent living remains at the core of our business. Here at Olympiacare participation and inclusion is a central part of our mission. It is essential that all our participants play a major part in decision making with regards to their support and care.
Every one of our participants will play a part in creating a management plan which in conjunction with their care they will set out their plans and goals for both the short and long term future. We will work closely together with our participants to set realistic, achievable targets. We will regularly review together the progress being made towards reaching those targets and if necessary in consultation with our participant review and change targets and goals where required.
We also offer a course in improving decision making which helps the participants make independent choices about certain matters including shopping, travelling alone on public transport, help with finances etc
Many of our participants often live alone and have limited opportunities to mix socially and communicate with other people within their peer group. Meeting with other people within your community greatly improves your well-being both physically and mentally. We actively engage with participants, their families and carers together with our contacts within the disability sector, advocacy groups, fellow providers and other stakeholders who make up an important part of our sector to find social activities and events that may be of interest to them. Opening up opportunities for them to meet new people, forge new friendships and helping each participant to uncover hidden talent and skills.
We provide a program of support to assist clients to boost their self-confidence and independence particularly in terms of managing their lives. By working closely with our partnership groups we can arrange contact with other providers and community groups giving our participants greater access to a whole range of community activities and a huge support network with like minded people, bringing communities together.
